Good Ol' Iowa

Patriots and party-goers will be able to legally buy fireworks in Iowa tomorrow June 1st! — just in time to shoot them off during this year's Fourth of July festivities.
Gov. Terry Branstad signed legislation last Tuesday officially legalizing the sale and use of commercial grade pyrotechnics in the state.

“It’s very quiet, but it’s not going to be after this bill’s signed," Branstad joked at a public bill signing at the Capitol.  It means that Iowans don’t have to go to Missouri or South Dakota or somewhere else to get their fireworks," he said. "I think it’s a very limited bill. It’s designed to try to protect safety of the people of Iowa. But I think it’s something that Iowans have looked forward to and enjoy celebrating."

The new legislation gives city councils and county boards of supervisors the authority to ban or restrict the use of fireworks, though they're not allowed to limit their sale. As usual wherever Democrats, hand wringers, and advocates of the Nanny state thrive the "civic leaders" are out to protect those whom they deem as "too stupid" to be allowed fireworks have sprung into action. Some city leaders in the Des Moines metro have said they are considering implementing their own local ordinances banning fireworks' use.

Iowa halted the sale of most retail fireworks about 80 years ago in the wake of two devastating fireworks-related blazes in northwest Iowa. In Spencer, nearly five blocks of the city's main business district were destroyed in a 1931 fire after a boy dropped a lit sparkler in a drugstore fireworks display. Twenty-five buildings were lost, and 50 more were damaged. In Remsen, a girl dropped a sparkler on a pile of gasoline-soaked rags in a garage on July 4, 1936, destroying 20 businesses and leaving 100 people homeless.

The new law just saved us a trip to Missouri. We've snuck across the state line every year to purchase our 4th of July fireworks. This will provide local businesses with additional sales. There are also those "tent" sales opportunities for enterprising entrepreneurs. The states coffers are expecting a $17.4 million influx from the new revenue sources.

Just watch... it will be those same Nanny staters who will be first in line with their social experiments they want funded with the tax money.

I'd discussed this topic with our legislators last year and they finally came through.

What was failed to be mentioned with the Spencer fire is the city was plagued with LOW water pressure and the Brand NEW firetruck failed to function and burned up right out in the street from the drugstore where the fire started....

She will learn to enjoy them just like I got her over running through the house barking at the thunder.

Just look on your electoral map and go to a RED county.. besides our Schools LOVE the extra sales tax money... set back and listen to Polk & Linn counties whine about their schools then ask them if they bought any fireworrfks? One cent out of that 7 cents in sales taxs goes directly to the schools. $1.740,000 additional to the schools while we're having FUN!

That only happens in Polk, Linn, and Story counties where the Nanny state reigns supreme.... Wish I could post videos just for this occasion! ISU in Story county had a BIG gala fundraiser with Hillary as the featured speaker....Only about 50 less than enthusiastic supporters showed up and some low life dirty rotten Republican went to it and got video posted to YouTube and sent to INFOWARS....

Don't you just love those Civic leaders who think you are too stupid to handle fireworks properly and safely?
